Part One: Initial Consultation
When homeowner Nuyu first called Decks on Point, she knew something had to change. She just wasn’t sure how bad it actually was until we walked the property.
The existing wooden deck had been there for many years, and it showed.
Weathered boards were laid out in a maze of awkwardly angled corners. On top of that, mature trees grew around old pergolas, which meant constant debris, blocked sightlines, and wasted space.
Nuyu didn’t want a patch job. She wanted a clean, open, and low-maintenance deck she could actually enjoy with her whole family.
Here's everything we found during the initial consultation...

Aging wood
The original deck surface was well past its prime. It needed constant upkeep just to stay presentable.

Awkward footprint
The deck’s irregular shape made it feel disjointed and left unusable pockets of space.

Bulky pergolas
A pair of large pergolas crowded the deck, blocking views and adding to the maintenance burden.

Obstructing trees
One pergola was built around mature trees, collecting debris and killing usable space.

Lack of lighting
The deck had no outlet access or lighting system, making it unusable after dark.
Part Two: The Design and Planning
We took everything the homeowners disliked about the old space and used it as a roadmap for what to build in its place. The answer wasn’t to work around the complexity. It was to eliminate it entirely and build something boldly simple.
This framing plan shows how the joists and blocking were arranged beneath the surface to eliminate flex and support the deck long-term.
This beam layout plan shows how the support beams step down to follow the home’s grade, ensuring a perfectly level deck surface from one end to the other.
Part Three: The Time Schedule
Every project at Decks on Point follows a clear, phase-by-phase process so homeowners always know where things stand. Here’s how this deck replacement project unfolded:
May 2–3
The proposal was prepared, reviewed, and signed. Then, the first deposit was paid to lock in the schedule and materials order.
July 14
Pre-construction photos of the original deck were documented on-site.
July 15–24
Active construction began. The old deck, built-in boxes, and both pergolas were demolished and hauled away. Footings were poured, the frame went up, AZEK decking was laid, TimberTech railing was installed, and the full low-voltage lighting system was wired and programmed.
July 28
The homeowner walked the finised deck with us before the final invoice was paid.
The deck construction itself, from demolition day to the finished result, took exactly 10 days.
The Deck Transformation Is Complete
A striking, open, rectangular deck now anchors the entire back of this Zionsville home. It’s a space the whole family can now enjoy.

AZEK French White Oak PVC Decking (Landmark Collection)
This is the premium end of the composite market, and for good reason. AZEK PVC never rots, never splinters, and never needs to be painted or stained. The French White Oak colorway has a rich, warm tone with realistic wood-grain texture. Combined with the American Walnut picture-frame border, the finished surface has a custom, two-tone look without the high-maintenance reality of real wood.

TimberTech Impression Rail Express (Bronze Powder-Coated Aluminum)
A railing system that pulls its design weight: sleek, intentional, and anything but generic. The powder-coated Bronze finish is durable, fade-resistant, and maintenance-free. At 36 inches tall with vertical square balusters and a Classic top rail profile, it’s clean, modern, and meets all safety standards.

Low-Voltage Outdoor Lighting System
Every railing post is topped with a post cap light. Black hooded riser lights are staggered down the steps for both ambiance and safety. The entire system is controlled by a 100-watt outdoor transformer with a built-in timer, photocell (so it turns on automatically at dusk), and a remote-controlled dimmer.
Materials And Finishes Used
This Deck Was $52,000
Every dollar in this project went toward building something the homeowners will never have to think about maintaining ever again.

Hey! I'm Carter, The Owner Of Decks On Point!
My introduction to this industry came at age 11, tagging along to job sites with a family friend. Over the years, I worked my way up from handing off tools and hauling materials to swinging a hammer and building decks myself.
Learning the trade from the ground up gave me a level of hands-on knowledge most owners in this business simply don’t have.
If you want a deck built to a standard most contractors don’t bother reaching for, Decks On Point is the answer.
You’ll get a process that’s easy to navigate, a crew that keeps you in the loop from start to finish, and a finished product you’ll love decades from now.

A Track Record Built One Deck At A Time
Hundreds of completed decks represent hundreds of homeowners who chose not to settle. See what they have to say below.

We just had a 400 ft. deck built by Decks on Point and couldn’t be happier!
Carter was awesome from the very first quote all the way through the final inspection. Professional, communicative and clearly passionate about the work.
Caleb and his crew pushed through rainy weather to stay on schedule. The finished deck exceeded all of our expectations. We are absolutely loving it. We had our first summer gathering recently. The deck lighting at sunset was stunning. They extended our time outdoor as well into the evening.
Worth every penny, elevated the whole deck from ordinary to exceptional.

Loved working with Decks on Point for our new two-story rebuild. Great customer service and quality work and materials!
The crew even worked us into their schedule earlier than expected and knocked out the deck in two days. The lawn was cleaned up each night and the deck washed when completed.
Would recommend this business with no reservations.

Andrew Gibson
We had our entire back deck completely remade, and Carter and his team did a wonderful job!
He was easy to work with, communicative, and prompt. Not only did they do a fantastic job for the actual construction, but Carter was great to work with on finalizing details of the design, exchanging sketch up concepts to make sure he knew exactly what we wanted.
Beyond that, when I pointed out a (very minor) item that I thought wasn’t up to quality, they came out immediately and corrected it without any hesitation or complaint.
Lastly, when his crew was beginning the work they suggested a small change that I had not considered which made a world of difference to the final product.
I would absolutely recommend them for anyone in the Indianapolis area!
