Part One: Initial Consultation
Cherry came to us in early July for a quote on a deck replacement and extension project.
We had our on-site visit on July 4th, where we looked at the existing deck.
They had an old wood deck that was over 15 years. They knew it served its time, and they wanted an upgrade…
A deck they didn’t have to stain, seal, or repair like they did in the past.
We kicked off their project with an in-depth inspection of their old deck.
... and these are some of the issues we found...

Old decking surface
The wood floorboard showed all the signs of wear and tear, including cracking and chipping.

Wobbly deck rails
The wood rails were wobbly and unsafe. They also required a ton of maintenance.

Rotten ledger board
The ledger board was rotten and decayed, so the whole deck was pulling away from the house.

Required an extension
The smaller wood deck was not matching our clients needs anymore, and they wanted to expand it.
Part Two: The Design, Planning, Permitting
Because this was also a deck extension, Indianapolis building department required us to pull a permit for this project. We took care of the blueprints, the design, the permits, and the inspections.

This was a basic, straightforward deck design. We extended the deck from 12′ to 16′ from the house and kept the same 5′ elevation from the ground.

Part Three: The Time Schedule
Cherry and her spouse loved spending time outdoors, so they didn’t want to rush anything. We gave them an accurate timeline and we stuck to it from start to finish.
July
Cherry contacted us for a quote. We had a quick on-site visit and then we started working on the proposal and deck design.
Aug-Sept
In August and September we kept the communication lines open. Our clients needed some time to decide on several things, and we had to finish a couple of other projects.
Oct 20th
We had all the materials on site and we were ready to kick off this project by tearing down the old deck.
We installed joist tape on the entire framing and started installing the new composite decking surface.
We wrapped it up by installing the new metal railing. Cherry’s deck was done!

Carter did a great job on my mom’s deck. Showed up everyday as promised even though the weather was not good. Cleaned up and did great work. Very happy. Strongly recommend.

Carter’s crew, led by Blake, were polite and worked diligently. The deck is very well constructed and will last for many years. The deck will be stained in 2 months but it looks great as it is.

Thomas Sovich
We hired Carter after we had a terrible experience with another contractor. His price was fair and the work was top notch. Will definitely use these guys in the future. Hands down, 10 out 10!
